About WRSAR
We are a fully functional volunteer Wilderness/Ground Search & Rescue Unit, specializing in Wilderness Rescue. We have specialized teams such as our Technical Rescue Unit, Marine Unit, “Ground Pounders” (Man-Tracking) Unit, Mounted Unit, K-9 Unit and ATV Unit. We also have Medical Response capability, combined with our awareness programs, safety programs, and other resources.
We primarily serve a ten-county are which includes Alachua, Citrus, Hernando, Lake, Levy, Marion, Pasco, Polk, Putnam and Sumter Counties. We are also available to respond to other areas as requested by local Law Enforcement, Emergency Management, or Fire Rescue agencies, or other requesting entities.
We are the only Search and Rescue Team in Florida that is trained in Search and Rescue for Autism. As such, we are dedicated in finding lost or endangered individuals with mental health issues.

2005
Founding of the Organization
Withlacoochee Regional Search & Rescue was established by a group of passionate volunteers committed to improving search and rescue operations in West Florida.
2008
First Major Rescue Operation
Our team successfully coordinated a large-scale rescue mission, saving multiple lives during a severe storm event.
2012
Expansion of Volunteer Training Programs
We introduced comprehensive training programs to enhance the skills and readiness of our volunteers, ensuring they are well-prepared for any situation.
