About Withlacoochee Regional SAR
The Withlacoochee Regional Search and Rescue Squad is a dedicated volunteer organization committed to providing life-saving search and rescue operations across West Central Florida. Our mission is to ensure the safety and recovery of individuals in distress, utilizing the skills and dedication of our volunteer team. We believe in the power of community and the importance of every volunteer’s contribution to our life-saving efforts.
Not every opportunity requires walking through a swamp, or riding in a rubber boat. Most positions needed are support, logistics, and administration. It takes 5 support personnel for each SAR field operator to conduct a success SAR operation.

Characteristics of Volunteers
Roles
Operations:
The most physically demanding role which actively participates in search and rescue field operations. This position requires physical fitness, training, dedication, and the willingness and ability to respond with short notice. This is the type of person that keeps a “Go Bag” ready at all times.
Logistics:
This invaluable role ensures the operations team has what it needs to be effective over time. It takes a high degree of coordination, organization, teamwork, and resourcefulness. This is a less physical role but can be physically demanding at times.
Administration:
The job is not done until the administration is handled. This may include checking in volunteers, printing and distributing the “plan”, contact personnel, coordinating with LEO, and maintain communication. Administration works with logistics to run the command center, receive donations, and document activities. It is the least physically demanding role.
